The course of The Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN starts at Kapiolani Park and continues alongside the Diamond Head base, offering spectacular views of the ocean as runners round the turning point and return to the finish line at Kapiolani Park.
The event will feature teams consisting of 3 to 5 runners who will compete in a relay race, handing over a sash (ribbon lei) to the next team mate as each member completes the same course.
Runners can sign up individually as well as in teams.
Each lap is only 5 km (roughly 3.1 miles) - a manageable distance even for beginners!

At Kapiolani Park, which marks the start and finish of the EKIDEN, you will find a celebration of Hawaii’s local cuisines through delicious food offered by a variety of gourmet restaurants, “plate lunch” vendors, and local food trucks.

Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN is more than just running! As soon as runners take off from the starting line, Kapiolani Park will quickly turn into a grand stage for a “Cheer and Dance Festival.” We encourage cheer groups and dancers of all styles to join this exciting event!

The Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN is hosted jointly with The Honolulu Festival, the largest cross-cultural event in Hawaii held in March every year. The Honolulu Festival features crafts and performances from cultures throughout the pan-Pacific region. The festival will close on March 8th (Sunday) with a grand finale parade through Waikiki starting 4:30 pm, followed by the spectacular Nagaoka fireworks show that will light up the night sky of Waikiki in commemoration of World Peace.
